    Where to look

The UK has three main credit reference agencies: Experian, Equifax and TransUnion. Several free services let you view your file from one or more of them. Checking your own report is a soft search and does not affect your score.

    What to check

    • Your details and addresses are correct.
    • Accounts you recognise — flag anything you do not.
    • Any missed payments or defaults.
    • That you are on the electoral roll.

    Frequently asked questions
